A construction worker was on this bridge late at night during a thunderstorm.
In the flash of his light, he saw a coyote crossing the bridge — carrying a spiny lizard in its mouth.

The bridge wasn't even finished yet.

That's when every doubt about whether animals would actually use San Antonio's wildlife crossing disappeared.

Today, 31 species have been captured crossing it.

Bobcats walk on one side while humans walk on the other — and neither really notices.

This is the story of how San Antonio built something the world had never seen before.

First video of the year 🌿

I took a longer winter break than usual — time to slow down, be with family, and let a few ideas take shape. It felt good.

This is my first publication of the year (see below), and I’m excited to be back in the field sharing Texas native plants and ecology with y’all.

As I map out the year ahead, I’d love your help.

👇 Comment below and tell me:
• What Texas native plant topics do you want more of?
• What questions do you have about planting, maintenance, or design?
• What problems are you trying to solve in your yard or landscape?
• Any ecosystems, regions, or plant groups you want me to explore?

Whether you’re just getting started or deep into Texas native plants already, your questions help shape what I make next.

Thanks for being here — more to come.

Exciting news!

I just launched a Patreon as another way to support the channel and get access to bonus resources.

If you’ve ever thought while watching one of my videos:
• “Where can I buy these plants you talk about?”
• “Which ones are deer resistant?”
• “What’s thriving in other Texans’ yards?”

…that’s exactly the kind of extras I’m sharing there: plant lists, additional guides, behind-the-scenes posts from my own projects, and more.

This is a soft launch (so you’re the first to know 👀), and I’ll be adding new resources and experimenting with what’s most useful for you .

👉 Check it out here: https://www.patreon.com/cw/CoryAmes

Thanks for all your support — the channel keeps growing, and this is one more way we can dig deeper into Texas Native Plants & ecology together.

Hey folks,

Big news! 🎉

You might've already noticed, but this channel is transitioning from the brand "Grow Ensemble" to being under my own name (Cory Ames).

By the way, nice to meet you! 👋

I've been a mostly solo creator for ~5 years, creating content around sustainable business. Lately, I have expanded into Texas native plants and permaculture.

I once had aspirations to build a media "brand," but I've come to find that was never the right fit for me.

Needless to say, it's made more sense now to make myself a little more "front-facing," even though I kind of already was. 🤪

I can share more on this transition if anyone's curious. I might do so in a future video.

In the meantime, you'll keep hearing from me here or you can keep up at https://coryames.com/.

Cheers,

-Cory
