On October 2, 1958, Guinea became the first French West African colony to choose independence from France.

This Independence Day, and every day, we celebrate all of Guinea - the coastal landscapes of Lower Guinea, the mountains of Middle Guinea, the savannas of Upper Guinea and the lush forests of Forest Guinea. 

From the rhythms of the djembe to the traditions of the Mandé, Fulani, Susu, and other communities, we celebrate the Guinean culture, heritage and the generations carrying its story forward.

From the rhythms of traditional music and dance to the stories passed down through generations, Botswana’s heritage lives in its language, its customs, its communities, and its people. Botho reminds us that our humanity is connected, that who we are is shaped by how we honor one another.

On September 30, 1966, Botswana became an independent nation. Sixty years later, its culture, heritage, and spirit continue to thrive.
