💔 𝗜 𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗠𝗬 𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗬𝗦𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗔𝗦 𝗪𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴..𝗜𝗧 𝗪𝗔𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗭𝗢𝗡𝗘 ⏰

➡️Yesterday, my numbers didn’t match.
➡️Daily active users dropped.
➡️Revenue shifted.
➡️Trends looked broken.
➡️I stared at the dashboard like I messed up everything 😰

💻𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱:
👉I re-ran SQL.
👉Checked filters.
👉Rebuilt the Power BI model.
👉Even doubted my logic. 🔄

⚠️𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴:
➡️Nothing was wrong with the data.
➡️Nothing was wrong with the query.
➡️The mistake was time.
➡️One table was in UTC.
➡️Another was in IST.
➡️My “daily” metrics were literally living in different days. 🕳️

🌟𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗳𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗱:
➡️I aligned timestamps before aggregation.
➡️Standardised time at source.
➡️Rebuilt the calendar📅 table properly. 🛠️

🌟𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁:
👉The drop disappeared.
👉Trends aligned And my confidence came back. 📈

🌟Lesson:
👉In analytics, bugs don’t always hide in SQL.
👉Sometimes they hide in assumptions you never questioned.

❓𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
What’s the most silent mistake you’ve faced in your analysis so far?

🚨 𝗜 𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗔 𝗡𝗨𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗𝗡’𝗧 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗘𝗡 𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗗

➡️While checking a dataset for a small analysis task, one metric looked too good 📈Conversion rate jumped suddenly.
➡️Everyone would’ve celebrated. I didn’t.

👉So I traced it back in SQL 🔍Turns out, the denominator changed because one filter silently dropped rows after a join.
👉The number was correct technically but wrong analytically ⚠️

🤔𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱:
I used a LEFT JOIN assuming all records would stay.

🤔𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴:
NULLs got filtered later in the WHERE clause.. turning it into an INNER JOIN without me realising 😬

🤔𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗳𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗱:
Moved filters into the JOIN condition and revalidated row counts step by step 🧩

🙌𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁:
Metric dropped.
Story changed.
Decision became accurate.

🌟𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻:
If you don’t control row logic, your metrics will lie confidently.
Good analysts don’t trust numbers first.... they trust logic first 🧠

😬 𝗜 𝗕𝗥𝗢𝗞𝗘 𝗠𝗬 𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗬𝗦𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗔 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗟𝗬 “𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗧” 𝗝𝗢𝗜𝗡

🧩 While working on a dataset, I joined orders and customers to calculate revenue by region.
🤔Query ran fine. Row counts looked normal. Output looked clean.
So I moved ahead confidently… 🚶‍♂️📊

⚠️ But something felt off.
Revenue was higher than finance numbers. Not by 1–2%. By a lot.

🔍 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰, 𝗜 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲:
➡️I joined a one-to-many table without validating grain.
➡️Each order was getting duplicated silently.
👉SQL didn’t warn me.
👉Dashboard didn’t warn me.
👉Only business did 😐

🛠️ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗳𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗱:

➡️Checked row counts before and after join
➡️Validated the grain of both tables
➡️Aggregated first, then joined
➡️Rebuilt the metric with correct logic

📉 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁: revenue dropped.
📈 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲: accuracy and trust came back.

🧠 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗜’𝗺 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻:

⚠️ 𝗜 𝗕𝗥𝗢𝗞𝗘 𝗔 𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗖 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗗𝗜𝗗𝗡’𝗧 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗘 𝗜𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 2 𝗗𝗔𝗬𝗦 😬📉

👉While practicing SQL, I built a report to track daily active users (DAU) for a sample product dataset.

👉Query ran fine.
👉Numbers looked clean, so I moved on thinking job done 😔 💻

👉But something felt off.
👉DAU was too stable for 10 days straight... no spikes, no drops 🤨📊
👉That’s when I checked my logic again… and saw the mistake.

🤔 I used COUNT(user_id) instead of COUNT(DISTINCT user_id) 😐
➡️Duplicate logins inflated activity and hid real behaviour.
➡️The metric looked correct, but the insight was completely wrong 🚨

➡️I fixed it by rewriting the query, validating against raw logs, and adding a quick sanity check step 🔍
➡️Suddenly, the trend made sense. Weekends dropped. Mondays spiked. Reality appeared.

📈 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁:
👉The dashboard finally reflected how users actually behaved, not how my query assumed they did.

🧠 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻:
👉In analytics, wrong logic is more dangerous than no logic.
👉Metrics don’t lie....... but queries can 😶‍🌫️

👉I didn’t notice it at first.
👉Everything looked right queries, numbers, visuals.

👉But working on it felt tiring.
👉Like pushing data instead of understanding it.

👉Then I realised what I was missing 🧠.... That I was jumping into tools before finishing my thinking.

✨𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 🤔?
👉 I was solving what I saw, not what the business asked.

👉As an aspiring analyst, this is a trap I fall into often. We open SQL, Power BI, Excel… and start working fast ⚡But speed without alignment creates rework, confusion, and stress.

🚨 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗡𝗨𝗟𝗟 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 10 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 😅📊

👉While practicing SQL, I got the “perfect” output.
👉Rows matched.
👉Counts looked right.
👉Query ran fast.
👉Then I noticed it… one tiny NULL sitting quietly in the result 🔍 That single NULL changed everything.🤯

➡️Because in analytics, wrong data doesn’t shout.... it whispers 🧠 And if you don’t listen carefully, it quietly breaks decisions later.

🌟𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘆:

👉Most analytics issues don’t come from complex logic.
👉They come from data we assumed was clean but never verified.

✨As an aspiring analyst🚹, this taught me an important habit... never trust data just because the query runs without error.
👉Check for NULLs.
👉Check ranges.
👉Check duplicates.
👉Check logic ⚠️

🚨 Being busy fooled me — clarity fixed it 😅📊

While learning analytics, I noticed something strange.
On days I did more work — more SQL queries, more dashboard tweaks, more visuals — I felt productive…
but the output still felt weak.

Then one day, after sharing a dashboard, I got this question:
👉 “Okay, but what should I do now?”

That question exposed the gap 🧠
I wasn’t missing skills.
I was missing clarity of decision.

As an aspiring analyst, this was a big lesson for me:
Effort doesn’t create value — direction does.

When I started thinking backwards (decision → metric → visual),
my work suddenly made sense.
Less rework. Less confusion. Better conversations 🔍

Practical takeaway (save this):
Before opening SQL or Power BI, write one line:
👉 “This analysis helps decide ______.”
If you can’t fill it, don’t build yet.

Learning this early saved me from a lot of useless busy work 🚀

Have you ever worked all day and still felt stuck?

🌟Today’s lesson hit me hard while studying analytics concepts.🤔

👉We can clean data, build dashboards, write SQL queries, and still fail… if we forget why the business even needs this data.

👉Numbers alone don’t create value.
Connection does 🧠.

👉When data is not linked to a real business question, it becomes a technical exercise, not an analytical one.

👉Revenue, churn, cost, efficiency every metric should point to a business decision.

🌟𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲:

➡️data → insight
➡️insight → action
➡️action → impact 🔥

👉That bridge between data and businessis what makes analytics powerful.

👉This is the shift I’m learning now from working with data to working for outcomes.

💫I’m documenting my projects, learnings, and experiments as I grow.
Since we’re all part of the data domain, I genuinely welcome feedback, suggestions, and different perspectives... that’s how better business decisions are built 📈✨.

👋✨ That’s today’s thought from my analytics journey.

👉Learning to connect data with purpose... one day at a time 🧠

👉I’ll be back soon with new thoughts and real experiences to share.

👉Until then, follow me, and take care of yourself and your family 🤍

👉All the best for your future goals.
