We’re deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Clifton “Jackie” Jackson.

A true pioneer of Jamaican music, Jackson’s distinctive bass playing helped shape the sound of ska, rocksteady and reggae. His unmistakable playing can be heard on recordings by Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff, Paul Simon and many of Jamaica’s most celebrated musical acts.

His contribution to Jamaican music was immense, and his bass lines remain an enduring part of its rich musical legacy.

Our condolences to his family and everybody who loved him 🧡

While often associated with pop-leaning reggae, Ruffin’s career stretched across rocksteady and early reggae, both as a solo artist and as a member of The Techniques and The Shades.

This week’s Artist of the Week is Nicky Thomas. 🎶

Born Cecil Thomas in Fruitful Ville, Portland, Jamaica, in 1944, he first made a name for himself with “Run Nigel Run”, produced by Derrick Harriott.

The track became a major success, earning Thomas the nickname “Mr. Nigel” and helping him take an important step in his life as he was able to purchase his first home in Kingston.
